Chaney Helms Obituary

The beautiful spirit of Chaney Mae Helms came to an untimely end on Monday, July 8, 2019, at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, AR. She was in her 67th season of a life well lived.

Chaney Mae Moore Helms was born on January 11, 1952, in Eagletown, Oklahoma, the daughter of Emma and Otis Moore. She was a 1970 high school graduate of Eagletown high school. After high school, she attended Cal-State University at Hayward in Hayward, California where she earned her BA degree in Early Childhood Education and a Minor in Psychology.  Throughout her years of accomplishments and living life, she met and fell in love with her long-distance sweetheart, Bobby Joe Helms of Arkadelphia, AR and they dated for 7 years all throughout high school and college. After her college graduation, Chaney moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where they were married on November 20, 1976. Unto this union, two beautiful daughters were born, Roshanda and Moshelle. She became an active member of Shady Grove A.M.E. Church where her husband was already a faithful member and she and the family followed.

Chaney was an independent woman with a heart of gold and a great personality. With her ambitious nature, she began helping her husband develop his heating and cooling business, Helms Appliance and Repair in Arkadelphia, AR. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning jellies.  Shopping with her daughters was another favorite pastime of hers and spending time with her entire family. She also loved beautiful flowers.

Those welcoming her in heaven include her parents, Emma and Otis Moore; brothers, Brian and Eric Moore, and nephews, David Moore, Jr. and Kendell Wheeler.

Chaney leaves to celebrate her memories: her husband of 42 years, Bobby Helms; daughters, Roshanda Helms-Williams (Patrick) and Moshelle Helms; brother, David Moore; sisters, Josephine Lewis Moore- Woods (John), Pauline Moore, Patty Moore, Brenda Moore, and Diane C. Moore; sister-in-law, Monique Moore; nephews, Victor Jones, Brandon Hunter, and Brian David Johnson Moore; nieces, Jasmine Woods and Raven McGrew-Williams; great-nephew, Greatness Jones; great-niece, Zoe Williams; special aunts, Earlene Bates, and Allene Middleton and a host of cousins and friends.
