James Rogers McClure was born on August 9, 1940, in Curtis, AR to Mr. and Mrs. Robert McClure and Clara Macon McClure. He graduated from Peake High School in Arkadelphia, AR and was a devoted member of Mt. Friendship Baptist Church in Curtis, AR. James was a hardworking man. He worked for Union Carbide in Hot Springs, AR as a machine operator where he was blessed to retire after 30 plus years of dedicated employment. He was a big fan of sports. He enjoyed watching basketball, football, and even tennis only when Serena and Venus Williams were playing. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing poker and horse racing. His most favorite pastime of all was spending quality time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren.
Those gone on before him include his parents; 3 brothers, Joe McClure, Robert Louis McClure and Charles McClure; 1 sister Ollie Vera Martin and 1 son, Dennis Osborne. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia JoAnn McClure of Hot Springs, AR; 1 son, Gregory (Toni) Osborne of Hot Springs, AR; 1 daughter, Vicki (Samuel) Gladney of Little Rock, AR; 2 brothers, Ferman (Ellie) McClure of Curtis, AR and Willie McClure of Flint, MI; 3 sisters, Rose Norman of Little Rock, AR, Mattie Bailey of Curtis, AR, and June Lee of Flint, MI; 6 grandchildren, DeJuan Osborne of Dallas, TX, Dorian McGowan and Samarah Gladney both of Little Rock, AR, Constance Osborne, Chyna Osborne, Crystal Osborne all of Hot Springs, AR; 7 great-grandchildren, Nijah Osborne, A’Lyse Fites, Demarco Osborne, Na’Travin Davis, Ty’Tiana Easter all of Hot Springs, AR, Dionte’ Osborne and De’Mari Osborne both of Dallas, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR. Public visitation will be on Friday, September 21, 2018, at Mitchell Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Haven United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, AR where Rev. Chester R. Jones is the pastor from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Mt. Friendship Baptist Church at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Curtis Cemetery in Gum Springs, AR.
