Roosevelt May was born on August 20, 1922, in Gurdon, AR to Jake May and Jessie Dickerson. He served in the Military service honorably as part of the U.S. Navy from July 8, 1942- July 15, 1948. Most people knew him from selling some of the sweetest Watermelons around Gurdon and surrounding communities. He was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church in the Greenville Community. He had two special friends, Dorothy Bell, and Annie Mae Jones. Those gone on before him include his parents, Jake May and Jessie Dickerson and one daughter, Helen May. Those left to cherish his memories are his three children, Alice Faye Edson of Flint, MI, David May of Grand Rapids, MI, and James May of Detroit, MI; his grandchildren, Ronald May, Odessa May, Martell Polk, Marquita May, and LaQuisha Kelly; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and special friend Kathy Green of Gurdon, AR. She was like a daughter to Roosevelt and always looked out for him. Funeral services are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia, AR. Public visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 14, 2018, at Roanoke Baptist church where Rev. Troy Hearne is the pastor and will serve as eulogist.
