Barbara Jackson Obituary

Barbara Ellen "Deakie" Jackson was born July 2, 1949 in Burtsell, Arkansas, the eighth child of the late Odell and Gracie Helen Barlow "Cit" Jackson. She was a staple of support for the Jackson household in her earlier years as she worked and purchased a residence for her mother and siblings. Her continued support added to the household income that was derived from part-time and odd-and-end jobs that continued well into adulthood.

She was baptized at St. Claire Baptist Church of Burtsell at an early age and remained religious throughout her lifetime.

Deakie graduated from Simmons High School in 1970, attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for two years, and took classes at Henderson State University. Education was foremost on her mind - not so much for herself but more so for her younger family members. She talked often about starting a family scholarship fund to reward relatives seeking a post secondary education.

She later moved to Chicago, Ill., working at the Seaberg Corporation, and later spending time in career positions at Reynolds Cable, and areas of medical services, health care, and adult care.

Deakie was an untiring entrepreneur. She invested much of her business time in real estate, lawn care management, and public transportation. She enjoyed her work as an industrialist, and when setbacks befell her, she would think through the problem, try it again or come up with a new venture altogether.

This tireless troubadour went home to be with her Lord on March 31, 2013. Her legacy of love, support and service continues through her loving family. She leaves behind five sisters, Lorece Muldrew of Okolona, AR; Linnie Sanders (Arthur) Gatlin of Carson, CA; Joyce Harrington Jackson of Chicago, Il; Betty (Ernest) Box and JoAnne Smith of Camden, AR; five brothers, Percy (Sydney) Jackson and Dan Jackson of Chidester, AR; Sammy Jackson of Kileen, TX; Alfonso Jackson of Los Angeles, CA; and Jerry (Barbara) Jackson of Atlanta, GA; stepmother, Lovester Jackson of Little Rock, AR; two stepsisters, Willie Jean Charles and Brenda Toppings both of Little Rock, AR; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Deakie was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Earlene "Tickie" Jackson; and two brothers, Samuel Houston "Speedy" Jackson and Roy Andrew "Hollywood" Jackson.

Funeral service will be Saturday April 6, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Clair Baptist Church, Burtsell, Arkansas where Rev. Derrick Newburn is Pastor-Officiate and Rev. Rufus Hatley is Eulogist.

Viewing is Friday from 12-7 P.M.
