Charlie D. Jones affectionately called “Tot” slept into the Lord’s embrace on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in his 91st season of life.
Charlie’s journey began on July 17, 1927, in Clark County, AR. He was the 3rd child born to the union of Cliff and Dora Reed Jones. At an early age, Tot accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and he united with Piney Grove A.M.E. Church. He attained his education at Piney Grove Elementary School and Peake High School.
Charlie met and united in holy matrimony to the lovely Ruth Elizabeth Jones, to this union, five children were born.
During the 1950’s, Tot relocated to Saginaw, MI. While in Saginaw, he was employed by General Motors (Grey Iron Foundry). After 27 years of dedicated service with GM, he retired and relocated back to the Reed Town Community in Arkansas.
Along his life journey Tot never met a stranger. He would always embrace people with a warm and accepting demeanor. Upon his return home, his past time hobbies were playing the lottery, raising cattle, cutting and bailing hay. Tot absolutely loved his tractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Stanly Jones, and Aline Jones; two sisters, Joanna Bragg, Eva Dismuke; four brothers, Booker T. Jones, Earl Jones, Leroy Jones, Clifford Jones, and his beloved companion Irene May.
He is survived by his children, Travis Jones (Lottie), Terry Jones (Almira), Ricky Jones, Rufus C. Jones (Elise Jean) and Joyce Jones; one brother, Herman Jones (Mary Lou), thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a special caregiver Doris Gleason, special friend Rev. Alvin S. Newburn, extended family and a host of friends.
Public visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR on Friday, June 7, 2019, from 11:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. The funeral services will be at Piney Grove A.M.E. Church in Arkadelphia on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. where Rev. Curtis O. Dansby is Pastor and Rev. Charlie Thomas is eulogist. Brother Charlie Jones will lie in state at Piney Grove from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. Burial and Final resting place will be in Piney Grove Cemetery in Arkadelphia.
