Dave Thomas Obituary

Brother Dave Thomas was born July 18, 1919, in Pike county Arkansas. He was the fourth child of Cal and Mary Thomas. In the latter pan of his teenage years, he met and married the late Annie B. Jones (Thomas) of Antoine, Arkansas. This union was blessed with three children. Two sons, Dave Thomas Jr. of San Diego, California, Jimmie L. Thomas of Dallas, Texas and one daughter, Daisy M. Thomas (Payne) of Lawton, Oklahoma.

At an early age, he joined the Harrison Chapel Baptist Church where he became a member and later a Deacon. In May 1958, he joined the Church of God in Christ in Antoine, Arkansas under the leadership of Evangelist Beatrice Moss of Blytheville, Arkansas, and wife, Sister Annie B. Jones (Thomas).

Brother Dave was an engaging individual who loved people and sports. He was noted as the "athlete" of the Thomas family who loved to play baseball. He played left and center field with the Antoine Dodgers during the late forties and early fifties.
Going to church and being a part of religious activities have always been on his agenda. Dave also was blessed with the gift of song. He could carry a sweet musical tune like no other. During the early twenties, he often sang with various quartets around Antoine, Delight, and Murfreesboro. In his lifetime, he worked for ten cents an hour. However, he progressed and became one of the best cement finishers in Pike County. Dave was a hardworking, loving yet strict disciplinarian. He would often call his sons from hundreds of yards away with a simple whistle of the lips. Even if those kids were getting their chance to finally "bat at the plate", upon hearing their dad's whistle they would immediately drop the baseball bat and head home.

Dave was recently chronicled in the Murfreesboro Diamond Newspaper for growing some of the best sweet corn and purple hull peas in Pike County. His produce was sold throughout Pike, Clark, and Hempstead, Arkansas counties. His produce also made its way to Dallas, Texas where it sold to anxiously waiting, happy customers.
In the vibrant month of July 2004, he married Rosie Jean Meeks of Antoine, Arkansas. There was always love and companionship throughout their marriage, each caring for the other. Many evenings you could find them reading and discussing biblical scriptures till midnight.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving wife, Rosie Jean Thomas of Antoine, AR; two sons, Dave Thomas Jr. of San Diego, California and Jimmie L. Thomas (Jo Ann) of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Daisy Mae Thomas (Payne) of Lawton, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Michelle Thomas (King), Katina Thomas, Vanessa Thomas, Veronica Thomas, Carmelita Griffith, Creshanda , Nona Thomas, Debbie Ann Adams and Dave Thomas III; two great grandchildren, Jewlyen Roberts Thomas and Malik Thabiti, Adams, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and church members throughout the south western region of Arkansas, who believe in God's Ten Commandments.
