Donnie McClanahan was born September 24, 1942 in Dalark, Arkansas to the late Henry McClanahan and Willie (Murdock) McClanahan. He was the tenth of eleven children.
Donnie received his education at the Sparkman Training High School. During his early childhood he gave his life to Christ and united with the Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, Dalark, Arkansas. He later united with the First Missionary Baptist Church, Sparkman, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. L. A. Craig. He was a faithful member, his work involved helping the Church food bank, attending Sunday School and Bible Study until his health failed. He was a joy and delight to all who knew him. His kind heart, cheerful words and humbleness gained favor with friends and all his co-workers.
Donnie was employed by the Marine Company for serveral years, he later worked for the Arkadelphia Sand and Gravel Co. until his retirement.
Donnie was married to the late Linda Faye Carter on October 15, 1960 and to this union two sons were born. his wife Linda and son Michael preceded him in death. He later married Leola Craig (Johnson).
Donnie departed this life on February 2, 2012 at the Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.
He leave to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Leloa McClanahan, one son, Fredrick (Genella) McClanahan of Prescott, AR; three brothers, Alex (Yorika) McClanahan of Carson, CA; Henry Jr. (Lois) McClanahan of San Jose, CA; Marvin (Deborah) McClanahan of Detroit, MI; one sister, Vernita Neal of Oakland, CA; two sister-in-laws, Juanita McClanahan of Dalark AR; Millie McClanahan of Crystal Rivers, FL; four step-children, Reginald Johnson of Germany; Venessa (Anthony) Baker of Little Rock, AR; Karen (Junior) Soli of Oxford, MS; LaTonia Johnson of Miami, FL; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves one Aunt Emmalene Murdock of Malvern AR, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins realatives, and friends. He also had a very special place in his heart for Fredrick Johnson (Little Fredrick).
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at First Missionary Baptist Church, Sarkman, Arkansas where Rev. L. A. Craig is Pastor/Eulogist and Rev. Edward Gulley officiant.
Visitation is Monday February 6, from 12 noon to 7:00 P.M.
Committal Service and final resting place will be at the McClanahan Family Cemetery, Highway 7, South Arkadelphia, Arkansas with Mitchell Funeral Home officiating.
