Dorothy Jean White- Mitchell, was born on September 27, 1937, to Arther and Ora Bell Mitchell in Curtis, AR. She started working at the tender age of 9, working with her parents.
Dorothy worked at the Clark County Memorial Hospital for 13 years. She worked at the Arkadelphia Human development center for 20 years as a dietician and was a foster grandparent for 6 years for Ouachita Baptist University, Happyland Childcare Center and Headstart.
Mama Mitchell was a faithful Charter member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. She was served a plaque for her dedicated service on May 22, 2022.
On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Twin Rivers Health and Rehabilitation in Arkadelphia, the sweet spirit of Dorothy Jean Mitchell came to a close. She was preceded in death by 2 children, Sellas Charles Mitchell, and Zeola Mae Noel (Phillip); 1 brother, Nathaniel White; 2 sisters, Mary A White, and Helen White Knox; and 1 niece, Dora Jackson of Flint, Michigan.
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her children, J.T. Mitchell (Brenda) of Little Rock, AR, Chester Mitchell (Elaine-deceased), of Arkadelphia, AR, Mary McClure (Charles-deceased) of Curtis, AR, Thurlin Mitchell, of Arkadelphia, AR, and a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren who she loved dearly.
Services are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. -7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 18, 2025. The funeral will be on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, AR where Pastor Llewellyn Terry, Sr. will serve as eulogist. Viewing will take place 1 hour prior to funeral services. Burial will be in Helms Cemetery in Arkadelphia, AR.
