Grezella Cummings Obituary

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

On Friday, June 12, 1936 Grazell "Grace" Miner began her earthly journey. She is one of the nine children of Cornelius and Gradie Miner.

Grace grew up in Junction City, Louisiana. She graduated in 1953 from Rosenwald High School of Junction City, Arkansas. This facility was one of the 5300 school buildings that were constructed in African American communities throughout 15 southern states. These contributions came from the Chicago philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, CEO of Sears, Roebuck and Company.

She had a strong bond with her siblings. She often said, "I ain't never heard of Arkadelphia until I got with Annie B!" her visits led her to meeting the love of her life John Carl "JC" Cummings. This union spanned for more than 40 years of committed love.

The teaching of family value was rich in the lives of Cornelius and Gradie Miner. They thought their children how to love, forgive, and to seek God first.

Grace worked at Ouachita Marine for several years, and later became a homemaker. Although Grace and JC didn't have children together, they cared for anyone that came along their way. She lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She enjoyed reading, exercising, cooking, shopping, entertaining, and time with friends and family.

Even as her health began to fail, she continued to keep her vow to God, and care for her husband. She had a warm heart and a sense of humor.

On Friday, November 30, 2012, Grazella Miner Cummings mercifully left this world of time to live forever in eternity. Her sweet strong spirit will be missed by many. Her passing reminds us that life is uncertain, but death is sure.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cornelius and Gradie Miner and a total of seven siblings.

Her memories will live on in the heart of her husband, John Carl Cummings; two sister, Annie B. Williams of Arkadelphia, AR; and Zola Mae Miner of Dallas, TX; one step-son, Carl (Mammie) Cummings of Arkadelphia, AR; a host of nieces and nephews, along with many friends.
