Henry Johnson, Jr. Obituary

On January 15, 1942, Henry and Emma Bryant Johnson welcomed a son they named Henry Johnson, Jr. Henry Jr., affectionately called “Tater” by some and “Lookup” by others, transitioned to eternity on August 18, 2020.

Henry Jr. lived much of his life in Clark County, Arkansas, between the communities of Curtis, Gum Springs, and Greenville. He attended Peake High School and worked in the logging industry. He was not one who enjoyed social events, but rather enjoyed his time at home. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and watching “Let’s Make a Deal”. After moving to Courtyard Gardens he spent his time entertaining the staff there and keeping up with the latest news.

Henry Jr. married Madie Gordon and to this union, his beloved daughter Nina was born. He later found lifelong companionship with Annie Sue Hart. Henry Jr. became a Baptist at an early age while living in Curtis. In his last season of life, he gave his life to Christ during prayer with his sister. On August 11, 2020, he renewed his commitment to Christ. We believe the angels rejoiced as he re-dedicated his life, and now we rejoice that by God’s grace Henry Jr. has received eternal rest.

Those awaiting Henry Jr.’s transition were his daughter, Nina Mitchell; his parents; his brothers Harold Redmon and Jimmy Perry; and sisters Mabel Jeffery and Brenda Grigsby. Those left to mourn his passing include his grandchildren, Tanisha Mitchell, Marcus Mitchell (Stephanie Wright), and Jumilyah Mitchell all of Hot Springs, AR; and grandchildren Ta’Esha Thompson, Exzavion, Kamryn, and Kayden Mitchell, and Ja’Maryah Randolph of Hot Springs, AR; a sister, Emma (James Sr.) Wingfield of Gum Springs, AR; and a brother Roy (Jo Ann) Johnson of Jacksonville, AR. He also leaves Annie Sue Hart and her children and grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Courtyard Gardens, with special recognition to Naomi Montgomery and Ki’arron Summerville for their care during Henry Jr.’s final days. Honorary pallbearers are Marcus Mitchell, James Wingfield Sr. and Jr., Eddie and Jimmy Redmon, Reginald Grigsby, and Bennie Hart.

Visitation will be Friday, August 21, 2020, from 12 noon- 5 P.M. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 11 A.M. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in JoAnn, AR with Rev. Louis A. Craig as eulogist.
