James Edward Muldrew, the son of Charlie "Mullie" Muldrew and Addie Ritchie Muldrew, Shug was born on August 28, 1931, in Okolona, Arkansas. He was a retired employee of International paper company. He accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior at a young age. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Okolona, Arkansas, where he served as a Trustee and president of the Cemetery Fund.
Shug attended and was in the first graduating class of Okolona Colored School. He attended the Agriculture, Mechanical and Normal College (AM&N) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. On May 1, 1952, Shug was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country until he was wounded in Korea and was honorably discharged.
Shug met and married his sweetheart, Lorece Jackson, affectionately known as "Sue". Shug and Sue celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 2, 2005, by renewing their wedding vows….an event that was shared with family and friends. The Lord blessed their union with three children.
Shug transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Lois "Red Head" Muldrew, Jean Muldrew, Charles Muldrew, and grandson, Penze Wine.
Shugs memories will be treasured by his wife, Sue, daughters, Donna Muldrew and June Wine (Keith), of Little Rock, Arkansas, son, Marcus Muldrew and daughter-in law, Tamecia Muldrew, of Okolona, Arkansas, sister, Ruby Gill (Charles), of Flint, Michigan, and brother, Charley Muldrew of Stockton, California, uncle, Walter Readus of Chicago, Illinois, grandchildren, Trevor "Trey" Wine, Mario Williams, Tommy Hill, Jr., Tomia Hill, Stephanie Armstrong, Kesha Wine, and great-granddaughters, Marley Abraham and Porsha Wine, as well as a special nephew, Billy Muldrew of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, May 26, at First Baptist Church Okolona, Arkansas at 11 A.M. where Rev. Larry Mitchell is Pastor and Officiating. The final committal and final resting place will be at First Baptist cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Visitation is Friday 12 noon until 7 P.M and family hour 6 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
