On Wednesday, January 2, 2013 Mrs. Jewellene Allen, 87 of Gum Springs, AR, mercifully left this world of time to live forever in eternity.
Ms. Nelson-Allen was born March 23, 1926 in Arkadelphia, to Cora Mitchell and Clarence Lashley, Sr. She became a member of Saint Ruth Baptist Church but later finished her service to the Lord at Eastern Star Baptist Church. She was a member of the Clark County District Association for over 50 years and also served as Superintendent for Sunday Schools. She also was a deaconess at Eastern Star Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Freeman Nelson, second husband, F.C. Allen, one sister Oidest Odessa Lashley Duncan, two brothers Clarence Lashley, Jr. and Walter Jerome Allen, son in law, WIlliam Lee Fort Jr., grand-daughter, Kindall Elaine Fort and great-grandson, Tyrie Jarrel Fort.
Survivors include; daughter, Aljewell Fort, son, James "Sonny" Nelson, son, Leon Nelson, sister Mynurvia Moss, grandchildren, Anthony Fort, Shellie Grice, Eric Fort and his wife, Monica Fort, great-grandchildren, Shakieda Grice, Archante Grice, and Arneshia Grice, great-great-grandchildren, Jewellen Fort, Emaure Fort, and Kylen McKinney; She is also survived by her step children, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 12-7 P.M., Friday, January 11, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Saint Ruth Baptist Church, located in Gum Springs, AR. The Rev. Marshall Allen and Rufus Hatley will officiate. Burial will be at Piney Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
