Joyce Ann Johnson was born on May 21, 1958 in Locust Bayou to the late Lisbon Pickett and Ethel Dean Bush. She attended Hampton Elementary and graduated class of 1976 from Hampton High School where she was quite popular being a member of the dance team and other extracurricular activities. She accepted Christ at an early age at Locust Bayou Church of God in Christ.
Joyce Ann was no stranger to hard work and was an outgoing entrepreneur all her life. She was employed by the Hampton Nutrition Center and DHS both in Hampton, AR. She was a bus driver for Arkadelphia Public Schools and retired after many years from CADC in Arkadelphia, AR. On May 22, 1979, she married the love of her life, Benny Ray Johnson. To this union, three children were born: Derrick Johnson, Yolonda Johnson, and Brandon Johnson. Her greatest joy was her family. Joyce Ann valued knowledge and wisdom prompting her to further her education at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR earning her a degree in nutrition.
Being the true virtuous woman she was to her children and husband, Elder Benny Johnson, she was an active, dedicated and faithful church member and First Lady. She enjoyed serving and giving God praise, and instilled in her children to do the same. She served as District Sunshine Band President of the Camden North District of Second Jurisdiction of AR. As First Lady of the Locust Bayou Church of God in Christ, she went on a mission to beautify the house of God by purchasing chandeliers and reupholstered the pews. She was also the proud First Lady of Davis Memorial Church Of God in Christ in Arkadelphia and the Arkadelphia District Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. LeRoy Williams. She loved her Church, District and they loved her.
Joyce loved being around older adults even as a child. She took up time with older individuals; often taking them shopping and to different appointments. She enjoyed drawing, painting, cooking, and decorating. She was adventurous, often traveling long distance accompanied by others or as she sometimes said, just her and Jesus, enjoying the ride and scenery exploring different states.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving husband of 44 + years, Elder Benny Ray Johnson, her Children; Derrick Johnson (Shannon) of Snohomish Washington, Yolanda Johnson of Little Rock, AR and Brandon Johnson(Monica) of San Diego, California. Her siblings: Victoria Hall of El Dorado, AR., Earnest Edington (Kim), Elder Kermit Edington (Tammy) and Stanley Edington all of Hampton, AR, Michelle Sharky, of Milwaukee, WI, Leslie Pickett of Moreno Valley, CA, Keith Pickett of Las Vegas, NV, and Janice Holmes, of Eldorado, AR; 12 grandchildren and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, cousins and friends.
