Mother Lucy Lois Luster Harris, the daughter of the late Danny and Gracie Macon Luster, was born in Manchester, Clark County, Arkansas on December 25, 1922. Her mother passed away when she was very young and her elder sister, the late Elsie Luster Dason Carter, was like a surrogate mother to her. She was a faithful and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, homemaker, friend and servant of the Lord. Mother Harris went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2011, at 8:16 P.M.
She received her early education the community public school at Piney Grove in Manchester, Arkansas. In 1949, Mother Harris gave her life to Christ and made preparations for eternity with the Lord through the ministry of the late Elder Andrew Tate. She is a founding member of the Manchester Church Of God In Christ (COGIC), Manchester, Arkansas. She served faithfully with her husband in the ministry and his pastorates at Ogden, Carthage and Kingsland, Arkansas. She was a faithful church Mother at Manchester COGIC, She was also blessed with a sharp memory and was a reliable resource for family and community history.
In March 1939, she united in holy matrimony to the Late Superintendent Benjamin Franklin Harris and was a faithful loving wife for over 61 years and partner in the ministry until his passing in October 2000. She leves to cherish her memory from this union one daughter and four sons: Mrs. Jean Harris Blacksher (Artis) of Oakland, California; Mr. Leonard Franklin Harris (Sedonia) of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Mr. Robert Lewis Harris (Glenda) of Oakland, California; Mr. Harold James Harris (Angela) of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Mr. Charles Cornelius Harris (Jimie) of Morrow, Ohio. Her fifth son Michael Harris preceded her in death in 1956.
Mother Harris will also be missed by her eleven grandchildren (Linda Blacksher, Douglas Blacksher, Gary Harris, Kim Harris, Anthony Harris, Regina Harris McNeal, Brittany Harris, Phillp Harris, Darryl Harris, Aleta Harris, Charla Harris Peterson), eleven great grandchildren and a host of nices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her eleven siblings. However two of her nieces, Earlean Eason Williams of Hampton, Virginia and Magree Eason Pickett of Richmond, California, were like younger sister to her. She is survived by four sister-in-saws; Mrs. Annie Luster of Oakland, California, Mrs. Viola Allen of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Gladys LeGrande of Oakland, California, and Mrs. Willie Bell Harris of Pittsburg, California. Mother Harris also leaves a host of other relatives, friends, and church family.
Mother Harris was a vary kind, sweet person with a generous heart and devoted much of her time to helping and serving others. Her physical presence will be missed but we have our memories of a well-ived life to chrish and praise God for sharing her with us. We celebrate her homegoing knowing that she is now absent from the body but present with the Lord!
Celebration service will be held Saturday April 23, 11:00 P.M. at Manchester COGIC, Manchester, Arkansas where Elder G. C. Nolan is Pastor and Eulogist, Superintindent Leroy Williams, Officiating.
