Mother Elsie Snowden was born to the late Benjamin J. Lawrence and John Anner Brownlee in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Mother Snowden confessed a hope in Christ during a tent revival at age 13 and faithfully pledged her life to serving the Lord for 74 years.
She was a loyal, faithful and dedicated member of Tate Temple Church of God in Christ until her death. She held and served in various capacities and held many different positions during those years.
Mother Snowden served both on Local, District, State and National levels to include: Tate Temple: Chairman of Bereavement committee, Church Mother, Choir President, President of Cradle Roll. She served on Church Anniversary Committee, President of the Sunshine Band, Held Vice President and President of the Women's Department, Youth President, YPWW Secretary, Chairman of the Hospitality Committee, Assistant Leader of the Sewing Circle, Coordinator of Meal Planning, and Served on the Pastoral Anniversary Committee.
Mother Snowden's District Positions included: Assistant Minister of Music, Minister of Music, Chairlady of the Youth Department, Chairman of the Sunshine Band, Chairman of the Women's Department, Chairman of the Banquet Committee, and Co-Organizer of First Midnight Musical.
National Positions: Member of The Charles Harrison Mason Memorial Choir under the direction of the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark
Mother Snowden lived a rich, full and purposeful life, leaving a lasting impression on all she met. She worked outside her home while raising and educating five children and maintained a very active church life. She loved her family and they always cherished her. Her doors were always open to anyone she could offer a word of advice, a helping hand or a meal. She was loved and respected by many in the Arkadelphia community.
She was employed by Bee Hive as a store manager; Henderson State, The Arkadelphia Housing Authority as a receptionist; Served as a food service coordinator for several local restaurants and lastly owned and operated her own home daycare.
Mother Elsie Mae Snowden's legacy and wisdom will live on forever in our hearts and she will be greatly missed by us all.
She was welcomed to her eternal home by; her parents, the love of her life, husband Jimmie Snowden siblings, and two sons, Lawrence DeLoach and Lynn Dell DeLoach.
To cherish her memory and celebrate her flight to glory, she leaves: One daughter, Lillie White of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Two sons, Ben DeLoach (Barbara) of Memphis, Tennessee and Gary DeLoach (Rhonda) of Jacksonville, Arkansas; Two daughter-in-laws, Michelle DeLoach of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Elizabeth DeLoach of Hope, Arkansas; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd is pastor. Superintendent Ron Matheney will serve as officiant and Superintendent Leroy Williams will serve as eulogist. Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2016 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home and family hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tate Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial will be at Piney Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
