Mr. Robert Louis Hill was born February 23, 1933 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to the late Freeman and Alvergia Forte Hill. He grew up in Arkadelphia and graduated from Peake High School in 1955. He was active in athletics and excelled as a student. Robert was a loving and caring son. He was always attentive and caring to his parents and his only brother, James Oman Hill.
On June 7, 1969, Robert married the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Thomas-Pickens. The union has lasted nearly 45 years. He immediately became the loving father of Darryl and Regina Pickens. On February 28, 1973, the apple of his eye, Almeta Lynn Hill, was born. She brought great joy to his life.
At an early age, he united with Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He grew up as an active member, always involved in the Sunday School and church. In 1970, Greater Pleasant Hill ordained him as a deacon. He remained faithful in the work of the church until his health failed. He also served as a trustee and church treasurer for many years. He was named Deacon Emeritus in March 2014. Robert was a talented carpenter and artist. He willingly used these talents to enhance the work of the church.
He was a dedicated employee of Sears and Roebuck, where he remained until the closing of the tire shop. Later he was a faithful employee of Citizens (Regions) Bank and Beehive Industries.
Robert leaves to cherish his precious memory: his wife of nearly 45 years, Bonnie J. Hill; three children, Darryl Pickens (Arkadelphia), Regina Jones (Arlington, Texas) and Almeta Radford (Rev. Jesse) of Haymarket, VA. He also leaves six grandchildren (Darryl Jr and Brandy Pickens; Summer and Tiffany Jones; and Jordan and Sydney Radford) along with six great-grandchildren; one uncle (Jesse Williams); two special nephews (Shawn and Fitzgerald Hill) and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 1 P.M. at the Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29 from 1 to 7 P.M. with family hour from 6 to 7P.M. at the funeral home.
