Roberta “Skirt” Beavers Gentry was born June 23, 1938, in Antoine, AR to Charles and Pearlene Beavers. She was the youngest of nine children born to Charles and Pearlene. She began attending church at a young age and worshipped at the Antoine Church of Christ until her health failed. She was a graduate of Simmons High School in Okolona, AR. She later fell in love and married Norman Gentry, Jr. To this union, five children were born.
Roberta loved to cook and was gainfully employed at several restaurants throughout her career. She enjoyed cooking large meals and feeding her family and friends in the neighborhood. Some of her pastimes included fishing with her sisters, spending time with her grandchildren, and working crossword puzzles. Roberta had a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She befriended any stranger and was the life of any event or gathering she would attend. Her laughter and beautiful smile will be missed by so many.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in her 79th season of life, she slumbered peacefully into eternal rest. We will miss her, but we also take solace in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who transitioned before her. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant son, Norman Anthony; granddaughter, Shanika Gentry Martin; seven siblings; Jimmie L. Beavers, Gracie Beavers Gentry, George Beavers, Charlene Beavers Tolliver, Charles Beavers, Frank Beavers, and Sarah Beavers Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Irmon Ray (Donna) Gentry, of Washington, AR, Bobby Ray (Inez) Gentry, of Fulton, AR, and Claude (Marcia) Gentry, of Antoine, AR; one daughter, Carolyn (Steve) Bell, of Lockesburg, AR; one sister, Earnestine Williams, of Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Natasha Leeper, Raylon Hubbard, Cortney Wesson, Bobby Gentry II, Kentreal Gentry, Shaterra Gentry, Derico Whitmore, Lakesha Gentry, Brittany White, Steven Lindsey Bell, Nechelle Bell, and Stephanie Stephens; 21 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She also leaves to cherish a special niece, Mary “Mae” Louise Snowden. Roberta loved their “special time” together and through that, they formed a special bond.
