Rosetta Macon Obituary

Sister Rosetta Macon was born July 26, 1946 in Griffithtown, Arkansas, the youngest of three children born to the union of the late Elnora and Jarvis Macon. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful and devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, homemaker, and servant of the Lord. A life-long member of New Bethel Baptist Church, she cherished every opportunity to magnify the Lord. She worked diligently as choir president, as vice-president of Mission, as Sunday School Teacher, as finance secretary, and as an exceptional coordinator for all church programs including Vacation Bible School. Rosetta was always faithful, always doing what she could to help in the Master's cause, even after her health failed. As a life-long learner, she began her educational journey at Piney Grove School in Manchester and graduated from Peake High School in Arkadelphia. She continued her education at Henderson State University. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, Masters of Science in Counselor Education, and completed several hours above her Masters degree. Also, she completed several classes at Ouachita Baptist University to enhance her study and understanding of the Bible. She retired from the Arkadelphia Public School System after working thirty-three years as a social worker and classroom teacher. Nothing brought her more joy than being "surrogate" mom for her niece and nephew, O.J. and Shalonda. They were the apples of her eye. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, reading her Bible, visiting senior citizens and creating unique crafts. Her community was special to her. She wanted Griffithtown to be a "model" community and initiated several clean-up/pick-up projects to enhance the area. Rosetta went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2012. She will be missed by her sister, Nora Macon of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Orlander (Betty) Macon, of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; niece, Shalonda Macon of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; nephew, Orlander Macon, Jr., of Arlington, Texas; and a host of other relatives, friends and church family. Her physical presence will be missed but we have our memories of her to cherish and praise God for sharing her with us. We celebrate her homegoing knowing that she is now absent from the body but present with the Lord!Homegoing celebration will be held Wedneday at 11 A. M. at Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church where Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd is pastor and Rev. Greg Marshell is the eulogist.Viewing is Tuesday from 1 to 7 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
