On June 17, 1948, Roy Terry Lyons was born to the union of the late Nellie Mae Lyons and Frank Lyons of Gurdon AR. Roy’s mother was later married to the late Willie B. Russey and to this union two siblings were born.
Roy accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early and united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gurdon AR. Roy graduated from Henry Bell High School in 1966. He later served in the United States Air Force from 1971-1975 with an Honorable Discharge. Roy’s military experience provided training as an aerospace ground equipment repairman/electrician. He pursued further education as an electrician at the vocational school in Pine Bluff AR. Roy worked at Saint Francis House in Little Rock AR for 28 years where he later retired.
Roy at the age of 72, passed away on July 25, 2020, at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock AR. He preceded in death by his father and mother and a younger brother (Donnie Russey) of Little Rock AR. He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, one sister (Mable A. Henry), one nephew, one niece, and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation is Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR from 12 noon- 5:00 P.M. Graveside services are at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon, AR on Friday, July 31, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Johnny Harris serving as eulogist.
