Willie Otis Buckley was born June 18, 1939, to loving Christian parents, Roland Buckley and Tennie Cummings. He grew up in the rural area of Shady Grove, a suburb of Arkadelphia, AR. He attended Peake High School.
Raised in a Christian home while staying in Arkadelphia, he attended Apostolic Faith Church where Pastor James Langley resided. Willie was also a deacon in the church and enjoyed reading and listing to the word of God.
Willie worked as a jailer for over 14 years at Clark County Detention where he retired in late 2003. After retiring from the detention center, he worked as a Senior Companion at Area on Aging where he received a Senior Companion Volunteer of the year award and 4 Governor’s Volunteer Excellence awards until retirement again in early 2017. After retiring for the second time, Willie spent most of his days doing what he loved the most, fishing, working in the yard and a bit of hunting.
On May 3, 2019, Willie Buckley was called home from CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, AR. Well done thy good and faithful servant, come take your rest. His wife, Janetta Carr-Buckley; parents, Roland Buckley and Tennie Cummings; brothers, Charles Billie Buckley, and Thomas Wayne Buckley, Sr. and sister Ozella Buckley Arnold all preceded him in passing.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his children, LaDana and Farrah Buckley both of Arkadelphia, AR, Dwight Jones of Little Rock, AR, and Kendale Buckley of Arkadelphia, AR; grandchildren, Nathanial Dobbs III, Tye Dobbs, Shakedia Dobbs, Kanesha Grandy, Dwight Eric Jones, Jr., Patrick Jones, Sha’Kyla Jones, Janiah Smith, and Messiah McDonald; siblings, Hattie Lou Buckley Babb of Mountain Pine, AR, Ethel L. Culpepper (Thomas Culpepper) of Lansing, MI, Joseph S. Buckley (Joyce) of Garland, TX and aunt, Alberta Jefferson of Lansing, MI.
Funeral services are under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, AR. Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 11:00 A.M.- 6:00 P.M. Family and friends hour will be from 5:00 P.M.- 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at Apostolic Faith Church in Arkadelphia, AR where Rev. James Langley is Pastor and eulogist. Committal and Final resting place will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Arkadelphia, AR.
